The company is sponsoring Louise Corkill and Amy Stoutt, originally from the Island who are now key figures at Leeds Hockey Club.
Having played since the age of five, following a family tradition, and being a regular competitor at the Manx Youth Games, Louise is considered a role model for aspiring Manx hockey players. She was called up to the England Under 21 squad whilst at University. As a former Ramsey and Bacchas player, Louise is now captain of the Leeds Hockey Club which last season won promotion to the National League North.
She is also a performance hockey coach at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate in York.
Amy is in the final year at Leeds Beckett where she is studying Sport and Exercise Science and is vice club captain for the university’s Hockey Club. She has also been called up to national level, where she plays on the English Universities team, having recently played against Belgium.
SMP Partners’ Group Chairman Steve McGowan says it has been encouraging to see the development of both players in recent years.
‘We pride ourselves on our involvement with the Island’s community and local sports initiatives, and it is very exciting for us to be able to lend our support to Louise and Amy.
‘It is fantastic to have representatives of the Island competing at such a high level and we wish them both the very best of luck for the new season.’
Both ladies are graduates of the Isle of Man Sporting Excellence Programme, which was a Dame Kelly Holmes initiative sponsored by SMP Partners, so have already benefited from the company’s generous support.
Louise commented: ‘SMP has been a wonderful supporter to me and a number of Manx athletes over the years. The company’s sponsorship of rising Manx athletes really is invaluable and in particular their support with the Isle of Man Sporting Excellence Programme since its inception in 2011, was a fantastic opportunity for both me and Amy to be involved in, giving us a solid foundation from which to further our sporting ambitions.
‘From winning my first England under 21 cap against Germany to being named captain at Leeds, the ongoing support makes such a difference. It is a pleasure and a privilege to be an ambassador for the Isle of Man and to help play a small part in raising the profile of both hockey and the outstanding sporting talent we have here on the Island.’
Amy added: ‘I am extremely grateful to SMP Partners for their support towards the forthcoming season. Having a home-based company supporting our achievements in hockey whilst off-Island means a great deal to both of us. I am very proud of our heritage and it is encouraging to see that our hard work individually and together as Leeds Hockey Club isn’t going unnoticed. It is thanks to the support of SMP Partners that we can continue with our success for the foreseeable future.’
